Cay and I enjoyed Frank Capra's classic in a packed theater.

It's the first time I've ever seen IAWL with hundreds of other people on the big screen.

We sat in row three and It was spectacular. I was transported throughout the full length of the film. What a gorgeous print of a wonderful film.

Thank you American Cinematheque!

Took the above before enjoying a meal at one of my favorite places in LA. Thanks to Cay's mom Jean for a nice pre-Xmas treat.

Now that the winter solstice has passed the days are getting longer and as pagans we have been howling at the moon.

Happy Holidays to all. George Bailey lives!

Cay and I had been hearing good things about this little indie that could.  A 94% @ Rotten Tomatoes is a huge plus and most of the publications we read also recommended it.  I recently saw Hard Candy at home (meh - a well done experiment but overall weightless) and thought Ellen Page showed some talent.

I was put off during the first forty five minutes or so but the film took a turn for me about halfway through and by the end I was pretty much blown away.  Everybody in the theatre was tearing up.  The obnoxious teenage girls behind us actually gained my sympathy when I heard one of them bawling.

It gets four out of four stars from me and I am scouring the Internets for the soundtrack this week.  Get out there and see it.  Let me know what you think.

Brand Spanking New Street Art

I had a doctor's appointment on Sawtelle Boulevard in West LA the other day.

Sawtelle is a great place to soak in some Japanese American culture that features a couple of great Giant Robot stores, Nijiya, noodle joints, karaoke studios, yakitori, pho, and so much more.

This is where I used to hang out quite a bit the early 00's playing Counterstrike @ Cyber City.

Found some good street art and snapped some pics with the iPhone.

Getting Older

Middle age has hit me with a left hook.

This morning I took a shower, put on some underwear, socks, and a t-shirt while doing some yoga. (My lower back has been tweaked by a bad night's sleep for the last day and a half...)

I found myself being late for work and I put my Chuck Taylors on.

I stood up off the couch and something didn't feel quite right.

I looked down to see that I had not put my pants on.

In the Break Room @ Apple

In the Break Room @ Apple, originally uploaded by Nigel Stewart.

Worked my second day as a Mac Specialist @ the Apple Store in Santa Monica today. The pic above was taken by Lindbergh who is our unofficial mascot and super inventory control dude.

I've had a couple of great days there. Yesterday I did well and tonight I sold a Mac Pro and a 30" monitor to a professional photographer at the end of the night. W00t!

It feels great to be working with a company I've always loved and I feel like this may be a new chapter in my life I will look back on as a very significant sea change.

UPDATE: Got some flack for posting a pic of me in the "Back of House" so I took the pic down.

This WILL make you cry (in a good way)

Found this blog post on reddit. Too bad the music on the video is kinda bad.

Lazy Post of the Month

You know how it works, people.

My latest diggs:

I've been surfing the Pacific since 1996 and I have never seen a report like the one for this week.  30 foot sets?

This absolutely scares the sh** out of me and I will go out to the breaks with my cameras but no way will I be paddling out.

I can't imagine Northern Cal.

    My New Job

Started my training as a Mac Specialist today at the Viceroy Hotel here in Santa Monica.  It was nice being able to cycle the mile since so many of my colleagues had to drive in from all over Southern Cal and pay far too much money for parking.

I can't be specific about my training since I signed a non-disclosure agreement but I can say it feels good to be doing something new and I'm looking forward to some good experiences.

The studios and writers have been at the bargaining table for a week and depending on who you listen to (I have been religiously reading Nikki Finke's blog Deadline Hollywood) the talks are either going well or they are doomed to failure (NYT.)

I will be making about a quarter of what I made as an assistant but I have to pay the mortgage somehow.  Maybe there will be room for advancement and a higher pay scale.  One thing that's nice about being employed by Apple is that I will have the option to buy stock at a 15% discount twice a year.  If I cash out the shares I have now in Apple and rebuy at the discounted rate I stand to make a truckload of cash.  I also get a 25% discount on the bigger ticket items so I'm sure friends and family members will soon be flocking to me for their Apple needs and wants.  The other perk of taking this job is I'll be exposed to the hardware and software I've been meaning to spend more time with anyway and getting paid for it.

    Change is good!
