Boycott Nike Now (updated)

From the site:

On July 17, 2007, Atlanta Falcons player Michael Vick was indicted in Virginia on charges involving animal fighting.

But Vick not only fought dogs, he tortured them.

According to the criminal indictment against Vick, in 2001 Vick created the so-called "Bad Newz Kennels" where he housed, trained and fought pit bulls.

Vick personally participated in the killing of at least eight dogs, who were not considered good enough fighters, by methods including "hanging, drowning and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."

When authorities raided Vick's Virginia house, they found, among other things, 66 dogs (mostly pit bulls), a dog-fighting pit, bloodstained carpets and equipment commonly associated with dogfighting.

Vick faces up to 5 years in jail if convicted.

Nike has had an endorsement deal with Vick since he joined the NFL in 2001, and the company has declared that it is not going to suspend that contract. Nike has also said it has no plans to pull merchandise bearing Vick's name from store shelves. Please join us in signing a petition pledging not to not buy any Nike products until Vick's contract with Nike has been terminated.

Hat tip to Caybird for passing this on.

UPDATE: Nike suspended his contract this past weekend. Should I unpublish this entry? I won't just because what Vick did needs to be remembered.
