I've been training to run the Los Angeles Marathon on March 19th which is only two weeks away from this Sunday.
Two weeks ago I ran a long training run of marathon distance (26.2 miles) down to Manhattan Beach and back from Santa Monica. It was a great run that I finished in 3 hours and 56 minutes. I was hoping to come in under four hours for the marathon and I didn't think I'd get there for the training run.
I guess I went a little too fast during that run because two days later I ran an easy 6 miles but I felt some serious pain in my left Achilles tendon. Fuck! Since then I've laid off the running and have only been cycling every other day and doing some walking. I tried an easy four miler the other day but the pain was still there.
I'm seriously concerned that I won't be able to run the marathon and this is something I've been working hard on since August. What a huge bummer getting old is.
I've solicited the advice of some fellow runners at work and I'm still hoping that I will be okay for the big day. I'll just be icing the area, taking it easy, and maybe seeing a sports medicine doctor next week. Wish me luck.
